Taking on a Group One winner at level weights isn’t ideal, but trainer Greg Eurell is keen to see what in-form sprinter We’ve Got This can produce in the VOBIS Gold Sprint at Caulfield.
Eurell gave the gelding a working holiday at the water walker after his fast-finishing win at Flemington on February 20 with Saturday’s $250,000 race the target.

“At the moment, this is probably his grand final for this campaign,” Eurell said.
Four-year-old We’ve Got This won at Caulfield in January and then came from the tail of the field to win over 1200m at Flemington 25 days later in his seventh start of a spaced preparation that began in October.
“We were mindful that he had been up for a few runs so we thought a little freshen up would be in order,” Eurell said.
“He’s done very well and his lead-up to this has been really good.
“I’ve been very happy with his work and his work this morning was exactly where we wanted him to be.
“Hopefully he can get a good draw and we can see what happens from there.”
Under the set weights conditions, We’ve Got This has 59kg, the same weight as Newmarket Handicap winner The Quarterback.
The Mick Kent-trained Supido is also among the 29 nominations while other nominations include Hareeba Stakes winner Thermal Current, stakes-winning mare Miss Promiscuity and Typhoon Tracy Stakes-winning filly Almighty Girl.
“It’s going to be a very tough exercise for him, especially at set weights which makes it even tougher,” Eurell said.
“But I like the way the horse has improved in his last two runs and we’ll probably get a pretty good gauge on him on Saturday as to where he fits in and what we might be able to do with him next time in.”
Eurell said We’ve Got This has a dynamic sprint if he’s able to get a soft run early and be presented late.
And he believes the gelding, who will be ridden by Craig Newitt, performs best with his runs spaced.
