Outsider Tiz Worthy has overcome greenness to score at Sandown
The Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans-trained Tiz Worthy did her best to throw away victory at Sandown, before upsetting a plunge on short-priced favourite Saluted.
Saluted was backed almost to the exclusion of her opposition and was sent out the $1.60 betting sites favourite in the MRC Membership Feel The Thrill Handicap (1000m) on Wednesday.
While Saluted had trouble collaring the early leader Shinjina ($9.50), she eventually got her head in front, only to be over-run late by $20 outsider Tiz Worthy.
Ridden by Jamie Melham, Tiz Worthy got up to score by a neck from Saluted with Shinjina the same margin off in third place.

While Tiz Worthy was the most experienced runner in the 10-horse field, the filly raced greenly in the final stages of the race.
Wednesday’s outing was Tiz Worthy’s fifth career start and the start of her third racing preparation.
Melham described Tiz Worthy as professional, but at the same time very green.
“I actually nearly fell off her at the 100 (metres) as she shied away from horses in front of her, so she’s still got a lot to learn and improve off,” Melham said.
“She’s still a very raw horse with lot of upside.
“The plan was to be a little more positive on her, but she didn’t jump that well, didn’t travel that well, so we just ended up being where she was happy and it ended up perfectly.”
The victory on Wednesday was Tiz Worthy’s second in her five starts and it was her maiden run in the Melbourne metropolitan area.
The filly made her debut at Bendigo in November, while her three subsequent runs were all over the border in South Australia.
Yeomans said the stable hopes the filly may graduate to a higher grade during the upcoming spring carnival.
“She’s not very big but she’s got a very big heart,” Yeomans said.
“We’ll be guided by her. She’s a very tough, hardy little filly, so we’ll sit down and map out a plan and hopefully she’s there in the spring.”
