It has become a common feature of any early spring meeting these days – an imported horse set to have their first run in Australia.

VOILA ICI (Memsie Stakes)
Voila Ici manages to fight off all challengers to win the Group 1 Gran Premio di Milano (2400m), Italy’s premier race for the older thoroughbreds at the classic distance, in June 2011.

SANAGAS (Memsie Stakes)
American import Sanagas turned heads with his win in the Group 1 Hollywood Turf Cup (2400m), a dominant performance – although American turf races over distance are notoriously weak.

SNEAK A PEEK (National Jockeys’ Celebration Day Plate)
Watch as the lightly raced Sneak a Peek looks beaten but somehow gets up to grab Jakkalberry on the line in the Group 2 Premio Federico Tesio (2200m). Voila Ici was third.

VAL CHAMP (National Jockeys’ Celebration Day Plate)
Watch as Val Champ finishes first past the post in the Group 1 Gran Premio Nacionale (2400m) – Argentina’s Derby – in November last year. He eventually lost the race in a controversial protest.
