Star Queensland sprinter Rothfire has returned from a lengthy spell following injury to record an eye catching trial win at Doomben on Tuesday morning.
Rothfire hasn’t been seen on the race track after finishing fourth in the G1 Golden Rose last year where he jumped as the short priced $1.55 favourite where he sustained fractured sesamoid bone.
Fracturing his sesamoid brought Rothfireβs burgeoning career to a gut wrenching, grinding halt. One minute Rothfire seemed to have the racing world at his feet. The next minute all of those dreams were dashed and his future was suddenly solely focussed on recovery from that injury, which required surgery, far away from big race glitter and glamour.
Rothfire found his way to Emeran Park, a specialist equine care facility set in the rolling hills of the Dooralong Valley on the New South Wales Central Coast which has managed to get the star horse back on track after his racing career was in doubt.
Trainer Rob Heathcote has no immediately plans for his star galloper and will give the horse plenty of time before returning to the race although the goal could be the $15m Everest which the horse failed to get a chance at last year.
