Jockey Michael Cahill has been suspended for four weeks after failing to ride out his mount, Aitutaki, at Wednesday’s Doomben meeting.
In Race 6, the Sky Racing Fillies and Mares Ratings Band 0-62 Handicap, Cahill eased his riding approximately 40 meters from the winning post.
Stewards ruled that this lapse in effort cost Aitutaki the race, as the horse was beaten by just 0.08 lengths.
Cahill’s suspension begins at midnight on September 21, 2024, and will run through to October 19, 2024.
This incident follows a breach of the same rule by Cahill at Lismore in July.
