Racing Victoria is in discussions on the potential to run whip free races or whip free meetings next year.
Racing Victoria issued a statement on Monday claiming there were a number of reforms being explored in Victoria regarding whip rules which could be trialled prior to a national determination by Racing Australia.
“As we had expressed previously when commenting on whip use, there are a number of options that Victoria could consider to progress the discussion on whip reform,” the statement said.
It is understood that there has been no decision on whether there will be an introduction of whip-free races, but Racing Victoria have confirmed there has been discussion around a race or a series of races where jockeys would still carry whips, but not use them.
