Veteran jockey Joe Bowditch was hospitalised on Thursday following an incident at Werribee racetrack. The unfortunate event occurred during Race 7 while Bowditch was riding Gracie Turf, owned by Julien Welsh. As reported by Ed Sadler from Racing.com, stewards confirmed the decision to transport Bowditch to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Despite the fall, Bowditch was able to move his limbs and remained conscious, although there were concerns of a possible concussion. Additionally, he sustained mouth lacerations and experienced abdominal pain as a result of the incident. Fortunately, Gracie Turf, the horse Bowditch was riding, did not suffer any injuries during the fall.
The incident caused a delay in the last race of the day, as paramedics attended to Bowditch’s injuries.
