Udyta Clarke, who suffered a life threatening medical issue last November, is set to return to the races for the first time in just over a year.
The seventy-four-year-old is hopeful of making the trip to watch La Marita, a mare she previously trained, race at Flemington on December 11. Andrew Payne now trains La Marita, but Clarke remains in the ownership group.
La Marita, who is a six-time winner from twenty starts, will go to Flemington on the back of a first-up win at Warrnambool on Sunday.
“I’m feeling better every day and it was so exciting to see her win on Sunday. But we watched it on the TV and it will be even more exciting to be there,” Clarke told Racing.com.
“I’m just excited to get back to the races as an owner and see this girl race, I get just as nervous as an owner as I do as a trainer.”
Clarke has renewed her training license for this season but, with her recovery still on-going, she has yet to pencil in a date for her return to the training ranks.
“I also can’t wait to see everyone back on track, so many people that you’d see all the time I haven’t seen in a year, but I can’t thank everyone enough for all their support and kind words since I was in hospital.”
