Godolphin colt backs up promising debut with smart win at Caulfield

There may have been limited form to work with but Traffic Warden had shown plenty of promise at his debut behind the well regarded Storm Boy and went on with it to win the opener at Caulfield, a two-year-old handicap over 1000m.

Sent out as the $1.80 wagering sites favourite, Jamie Kah settled the colt behind the leader Express Yo’self ($8.50) who gave a good kick, allowing Traffic Warden to come off the fence and once balanced, the horse went on strongly to score by 1.5 lengths.

Representing the James Cummings stable, Tian Pozman praised the colt’s professionalism despite running anti-clockwise for the first time.

“This is his first time in Melbourne and he travelled down really well. He’s a true professional, he’s taken everything in his stride, he paraded well and it’s a great result for the team,” Pozman said.

“He’s just a true professional, he came here today and put his best foot forward and it’s great to get a win at Caulfield.”

Pozman was happy to see Traffic Warden more positive here despite coming back to 1000m after settling last in a field of five on debut over 1100m.

“It was a lovely run, he jumped very well away and was a bit more positive this time, last start was a good effort at Rosehill. He was more relaxed there and showed us a great turn of foot late,” Pozman said.

Jamie Kah echoed the stable’s thoughts and suggested the son of Street Boss will be better over further in the future.

“Even going to the gates I just felt like he’s a really nice horse, he comes back to you and he’s got a beautiful big action on him. I was happy when he jumped well because we didn’t want to be too far away,” Kah said.

“He took a few strides to get going so I think he’s going to be nicer even over a bit further. Once we got to the leader the last 100 (metres) was just easy for him.”
