Townsville’s Georgie Holt has already achieved her first target of 100 winners in her first five years as a trainer and is on her way to the next aim of winning a premiership at her home track.
Georgina Holt has built up from a team of three gallopers when she first started to now having 18 in work at her Nome set-up.
Georgie trains alongside her jockey husband Aidan.
The stable is hoping their latest acquisition Siren Rock can give them a fourth Cluden Park winner of the season on Thursday.
Siren Rock, a five-year-old gelding by Lohnro, ran a slashing second to Holt stable mate Bold Kingston at his first start in North Queensland a fortnight ago over 1400 metres and will line up over the same distance in the Class 3 Plate.
Bold Kingston franked the form from the previous run by winning again at Cluden last week.
Siren Rock, formerly with Anthony and Sam Freedman, has won twice in his 14 start career at Warrnambool and Ballarat.
Siren Rock was bought by Holt’s parents for $17,000 in an online auction from the Gold Coast stables of Lee Freedman.
“He’s been up here for about eight weeks now and is settling in quite well,” Holt said.
“He is adjusting to the weather really well and I’m happy with his work.
“He’s drawn a sticky gate on Thursday on the outside of the seven runners but we’ve got Ryan Wiggins on board and he knows his way around Cluden.
“Our biggest danger looks to be the Steve Massingham-trained Indictment but he’s drawn one inside us so Ryan will obviously keep a close eye on him.
“Hopefully Siren Rock can put some runs on the board over the summer months and we can look forward to the carnivals next year.”
Holt is second on the list of North Queensland trainers for the season so far with nine winners and a strike rate of 16 percent behind Massingham on 15 winners.
She has four two-year-olds in the stable being prepared for this year’s Pallarenda Stakes on October 22.
“We’ve got a colt and three fillies going through their paces and will have two fillies in the official trials at Cluden on Friday,” she said.
“They were broken in down south and seem to have settled in well here.
“We are lucky to have a good setup here at Nome with a little track and some jumps set up to give them some variety.
“Plus, we do a lot of beach work and they get plenty of variety.”
Siren Rock is Holt’s only runner at Cluden on Thursday but with trials on Friday and two runners at Bowen on Saturday she has a busy few days ahead.
“I love going to Bowen as we have a lot of success there,” she said.
