Tony Gollan has rated Good Soize the best chance he's ever had to notch a Classic win

Tony Gollan has rated Good Soize the best chance he’s ever had to notch a Classic success ahead of her return in Saturday’s Listed Princess Stakes at Doomben.

Good Soize is on a path to the Queensland Oaks in June and Gollan said the 1630m of Saturday’s race fit perfectly into the preparation he has mapped out.

The daughter of Cox Plate winner Adelaide won two of her four starts in the debut campaign and after winning over 1800m at Eagle Farm in December, Gollan wasn’t tempted to press onto the Group 3 Grand Prix and turned her straight out with a view to the Oaks.

“She’s definitely an Oaks filly. She’s the best chance I’ve had heading to a race like that,” Gollan said.

“She’s a very athletic sort of filly, with a very good set of lungs. I was always keen to kick her off first up at a mile.

“Her work (Tuesday) was very good, she’s a filly I really like, she’s a natural stayer. I can’t wait to kick the prep off.

“She relaxes beautifully, she won’t spend a penny in the run and she will be very good late.

Good Soize was soundly beaten on debut over 1350m at Ipswich last October but quickly came into her own next time out over a mile.

“She never surprised us. The only day I thought she was vulnerable was first up 1350m,” Gollan said.

“The minute she got to the mile and beyond I was always confident she would be very competitive in everything we had her in. That’s how it panned out.”

Stablemate Bleu Zebra worked on the course proper at Doomben on Tuesday morning as she sets about improving off her first up run.

The barrier hasn’t helped her task, but Gollan says she is a better filly this week compared to a fortnight ago.

“She’s a filly that improves with racing into her prep,” he said.

“I thought she was quite okay (first up). She blew out late, (but) she’d only had one half mile trial, so she’s found good improvement.”
