Tom Marquand is back in the saddle and ready to hit the track in style! The British jockey will make his return to race riding at Randwick’s Kensington track on Wednesday, after five weeks of recovery time following a fall.
Marquand proved his readiness in the Randwick trials on Tuesday morning, and will partner Annabel Neasham’s unraced filly Kristilli in the first race of the day, followed by John O’Shea’s Capital Heart in the second event.
The 24-year-old jockey sustained concussion and a painful shoulder injury when he fell from Dorothy Gail in the Inglis Millennium (1100m) on February 4. After receiving medical attention from Racing NSW doctor David Duckworth, Marquand underwent surgery on February 15 for a posterior dislocation of his sternoclavicular joint.
Unfortunately, this meant Marquand missed several key bookings on Artorius (G1 Canterbury Stakes), Protagonist (G3 Sky High) and Dubai Honour (G1 Ranvet Stakes) over the last few weeks.
However, the jockey is now back to his best and is set to take the reins on several key rides at Rosehill on Saturday, including Joseph O’Brien’s stayer Baron Samedi, who is a $7 third favourite for the $1.5 million G1 Tancred Stakes (2400m).
Marquand’s return to the track is sure to be an exciting one, and fans can look forward to seeing him in action once again!
