We know that 3YOs have a wonderful record in the world’s richest race on turf, The Everest.
Over 1200m and worth $15million this year, it does look a logical stepping stone for fast emerging star sprinting 3YO WILD RULER (Snitzel-Gypsy Robin).
This would be so, after he ran a pretty fast time – 1.09.07 – in winning the 1200m Roman Consul Stakes at the Gr 2 level, coming home his last 600m in a swift 34.03sec, eased down the last 75m.
And under 56.5kg. These stats are significant as is the fact he is trained at Randwick, where The Everest will be run, and has NEVER lost a race at Randwick in two starts.
Immediately after the race, co-trainer Paul Snowden indicated The Everest is definitely something connections will look at now. And remember, the Snowdens have won The Everest twice so they know what it takes. “We know 3YOs have a great record in it and he is improving all the time. So yes, we will all go back and talk it over with the owners.
“He’s won a Gr 2 now, so he’s a valuable colt and we can sit and plan things.”
On Saturday’s win and those stats, he rates a very big show because he can sit off the pace and will carry just 53kg – meaning he might well be able to run a low 1.08. That would make him competitive.
But his winning rider, James McDonald, immediately threw cold water on is prospects.
“I would think think The Everest would be a bit above him and I think his natural progression would be the Coolmore in Melbourne,” said McDonald.
That’s a Gr 1 race too and against his own age. But not worth anywhere near as much.
So, we all sit and wait to see who will fill the last the Everest spot.
