Trainer Sam Freedman admits he was blown away by Ka Ying Rising’s stunning performance in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday night, though he isn’t ruling out a future clash with his own rising star Tentyris.
Reflecting on the dominant display, Freedman couldn’t hide his admiration for the Hong Kong sensation.
“He was outstanding; from a racing fan’s perspective, he’s just a marvel to watch,” Freedman said of Ka Ying Rising.
“We’ve got to keep improving to obviously entertain the thought of taking him on, but I think it’s good for racing; you do want to aim for the stars. At the moment, he would well and truly have our measure I would say on where they sit, but we’re hopeful.
“He’s a three year old, our horse, he’s making good steps forward, if he continues on an upward trajectory and we were to meet in a race like The Everest towards the end of the year, that would be exciting, I think, for all fans but I’m not getting ahead of ourselves, we’ve got a fair way to go but hopefully he keeps going in the right direction.”
Tentyris is set to press on with his autumn preparation, with nominations to be lodged for the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington and the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Randwick on March 7. Mark Zahra is expected to reunite with the colt after missing his previous outing through injury.
Looking further ahead, Ka Ying Rising and Tentyris currently dominate the market for The Everest on October 17, installed as the two clear favourites in early betting.
