Ten time G1 winner Lim’s Kosciuszko retired

Trainer Dan Meagher has announced the retirement of his champion racehorse Lim’s Kosciuszko … a twenty-two time winner from thirty-six starts, including ten Group 1’s in Singapore.

Lim’s Kosciuszko travelled to Australia with Meagher following the closure of racing in Singapore in October 2024, leaving behind a racing kingdom he ruled in 2022/23 and 2024 and a legacy that will forever be numbered amongst the greats of Singapore racing.

Unfortunately, with his move to Australia only taking place late in his career with an not so easy transition process, the Australian public did not get to have the privilege of seeing Lim’s Kosciuszko at his formidable best, with his best result in six starts on Australian soil being a third place finish in the Listed Straight Six at Flemington when finishing half-a-length behind Title Fighter when carry 6.50kg more than the winner.

That was evidence of Lim’s Kosciuszko’ class right there and it gave hope for the future but, ultimately, as Meagher explained when announcing the son of Kermadec’s retirement in a media release … ‘he just hasn’t picked up here in Australia and it’s time for him to enjoy the rest of his life. He deserves nothing but the best life possible.

‘There is not enough words to express what he means to (the owner) Mr Lim and I, he won every big race in Singapore travelled to Hong Kong twice and had a few runs here in Australia, but unfortunately, they never saw the old Kosi as he was past his prime and couldn’t rekindle his past.

‘He doesn’t need to do anymore! He owes us absolutely nothing and we owe him absolutely everything.’

Lim’s Kosciuszko retires as:

In 2022: a winner of the Singapore Derby, the Lion City Cup and the Longines Hong Kong Sprint.

In 2023: a winner of the Raffles Cup, the Kranji Mile, the Lion City Cup, and the Singapore Gold Cup.

In 2024: a winner of the Kranji Mile, the Lion City Cup and the Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

‘He is retired sound and happy and ready for a good life after racing,’ said Meagher which makes it a happy ending as the curtain comes down on an extraordinary career.
