Stewards at Murray Bridge made a surprising discovery on Wednesday, prompting the late scratching of Flight Deck less than an hour before his scheduled race.
The Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle-trained gelding was set to compete in the Benchmark 56 Handicap over 1600m. However, there was a problem – Flight Deck was found back in his stable at Morphettville, not at the racecourse.
The mix-up occurred when a member of staff mistakenly placed another horse, believed to be an unraced filly resembling Flight Deck, in his box. This horse was then loaded onto the float bound for Murray Bridge.
Upon realising the error, Moyle alerted stewards, who fined the stable $1500 and ordered the late scratching.
