Spanish Mission, the 2021 Melbourne Cup placegetter, has taken a significant stride towards his return to competitive racing.
The eight-year-old, on the mend from a tendon injury, completed a successful jump out on Tuesday morning.
Under the guidance of jockey Jamie Kah, Spanish Mission showcased his vitality over a 1000-meter course, even leading the charge for the initial 200 meters.
“She actually thought he was an Oakleigh Plater he jumped out and led them up for the first 200 metres,” trainer Peter Moody told Racing.com.
“Spanish Mission is now a eight-year-old after 12 months away, obviously he is a high class stayer if we can get him back anywhere near his best.
“We would be happy to see him in the Cups if he was going to be competitive.”
The horse’s successful jump out augurs well for his anticipated return to the racing scene, having last participated in the Feehan Stakes last year.
Spanish Mission was entered for the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup just last week.
