Peter Snowden says smart filly Memo only needs to reproduce her juvenile form to be a first-up force in the opening leg of the four-race Princess Series at a waterlogged Randwick.
Memo makes her seasonal return in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on Saturday after a two-year-old season highlighted by a rousing victory in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and runner-up finish in the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.
While happy with her physical development, Snowden says Memo doesn’t need to improve much to again be competitive at stakes level.
“She is a bit stronger, a bit heavier. I’m just hoping she can bring back what she had last time because last time in she was very solid,” Snowden said.
“The indications are there. Her trials have been good… and we’re seeing good signs at home in her work.
“She is on track to run well.”
As is traditional, the Silver Shadow Stakes will mark the return of several prominent fillies including Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Within The Law for Bjorn Baker and undefeated Tulloch Lodge three-year-old Agarwood.
The latter steps up to black type company for the first time after back-to-back wins in May, while Percy Sykes Stakes runner-up Savvy Hallie has the advantage of recent racing after breaking her maiden on resumption at Newcastle on August 14.
Memo hasn’t been stretched beyond 1200m but Snowden feels she can extend her brilliance and she is likely to progress deeper into the Princess Series races with the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 20 an important fork in the road.
“I’m thinking this prep we might get her out a bit further,” he said.
“She may get to a Tea Rose and we’ll go from there.”
