Siriusly Hot has followed up his Ballarat victory with a strong on pace win at Sandown.

The Ciaron Maher stable have aspirations of a winter series of races with their quinella pairing at Sandown.

Siriusly Hot and Kaleo ran one-two in the Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics Handicap (1600m) on Saturday.

The race was a qualifier for the Silver Bowl Series and the Mahogany Challenge which have a final for each series of races at Flemington on July 4.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Siriusly Hot ($12) scored a three-quarter length win from Kaleo ($13) with the 2.35 favourire Bella Verona a further 1-Ÿ lengths away third.

Jack Turnbull, the National Assistant Trainer for Ciaron Maher Racing, said Siriusly Hot could extend out in trip to the Mahogany Challenge which has races up to to 2000m with a final over 2500m, while Kaleo would be kept for shorter races.

“Siriusly Hot will be a chance to stay on while Kaleo, 1800 metres would possibly see him out,” Turnbull said.

“We’ve tried him at a mile-and-a-quarter, and it didn’t quite work out.

“It’s a good time of year for them, so we’ll just work our way through with them and try and reap the rewards.”

Siriusly Hot registered his second win on end having won at benchmark 62 level at Ballarat on May 10.

Turnbull said Siriusly Hot was well handed by Williams who rolled forward on the gelding and allowed him some rein soon after straightening.

“Craig went forward and rode him with endeavour and intent,” Turnbull said.

“This horse has found his groove in his last couple of starts. The soft tracks are the key, and confidence is a large player.

“Credit must go to the Ballarat team. They have him humming at the moment.”

Earlier in the Gilded Water was sent out the $2.70 favourite in the MRC Life Member David Sims 90th Birthday (1800m) and finished last.

A post-race examination showed exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage requiring Gilded Water to trial before being permitted to start again.

“It was internal, so it’s not the end of the world,” Turnbull said.

“That is manageable and we’ll just have to get him home, treat him and then work out where we go next.”
