Leading Country New South Wales based apprentice Siena Grima is headed to Sydney with her application to go on loan to the Chris Waller stable approved.
Grima confirmed the news to Sky Sports Radio’s ‘Racing’ HQ program on Tuesday morning when speaking with host Dave Stanley. ‘I’m moving to Sydney very shortly to continue my apprenticeship with Mr. Waller, which I’m extremely grateful for and hopefully the bigger and better things are on their way’.
Speaking on how the opportunity came about Grima stated she was taken a back at first ‘It was really unreal when I sat down and thought about it because when I look back, I haven’t even race riding two full years yet and to have been able to outride my claim, ride over 100 and be handpicked by the best stable in racing, it was honestly incredible.’
The apprentice rider officially starts her indenture to Waller Racing on Thursday and will be based at Rosehill Gardens. Given she has outridden her country claim she’s keen to start working at her provincial claim with 3kgs left on that and the metropolitan area. ‘My focus is the provincials where I still have a 3kg claim, and then again in the city metro ranks, where I again have 3 kilograms. It’s attractive for trainers to see Mr. Waller putting me on and seeing that I still have that 3-kilogram claim. That can be extremely helpful.’
Grima also spoke on her relationship with former Champion Jockey Darren Beadman, who now works as a key member of the Waller Stable. Beadman has been helping Grima with tactics, horsemanship, nuances of tracks and watching replays with her to perfect her craft. ‘It’s just priceless to have someone like him in my back corner’.

She has two rides at Warwick Farm on Wednesday on Man Of Worth for Waller in Race 2 and Confess Our Dreams for Brad Widdup in Race 6.
Grima has ridden 116 winners so far in her career in less than 2 years in the saddle.
