Racing fans will have a rare opportunity to secure ownership shares in potential Melbourne Cup runners just days before Australia’s most famous race, with Inglis Digital preparing a special Spring Carnival Sale.
Shares in established international stayer Vauban and emerging talent Wine Dark Sea will be offered through the online auction, which opens for bidding on Monday, October 26.
The sale provides prospective owners with the chance to become involved in the Melbourne Cup carnival without having to purchase an entire racehorse, with multiple ownership interests available in both gallopers.
Vauban, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, has established an impressive record across Europe and Australia, accumulating more than $2.6 million in career prizemoney.
The experienced stayer won the Group 3 Sky High Stakes during the autumn before finishing in the placings in both the Group 1 Tancred Stakes and Group 1 Doomben Cup.
Vauban returned to racing in Wednesday’s Geelong Cup, where he was required to carry 60.5kg as connections continued preparations for another Melbourne Cup attempt.
He has contested the famous Flemington staying handicap in each of the past three years and is again being aimed at the first Tuesday in November.
Wine Dark Sea offers a different ownership proposition, with the Harry Charlton-trained stayer emerging as an exciting prospect for Australian Bloodstock.
The gelding attracted attention with a dominant 13-length victory at Carlisle in June before stepping up in grade to win the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August, defeating established international performer Dubai Honour.
Wine Dark Sea subsequently contested the Group 1 Caulfield Cup and shapes as an intriguing prospect as his Australian racing career develops.
Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth said the upcoming sale followed strong demand for fractional ownership interests in high-quality racehorses.
“We’ve seen fantastic demand for shares on Inglis Digital, most recently with G1 Everest runner Ninja, Fireball Miss and Decorum,” Melmeth said.
“The platform also has a great record for selling shares in horses that have gone on to win at G1 level, such as Charm Stone, Baraqiel, Light Infantry Man and Benedetta.
“Vauban is an established performer at the highest level, while Wine Dark Sea is an exciting stayer with the profile to make a big impression in Australia.
“Both offer buyers the opportunity to become immediately involved in the spring racing action.
“There is the potential to facilitate additional suitable entries until Monday morning, so I’d encourage any owners or syndicators interested in offering shares to contact me or a member of the Inglis Bloodstock team,” Melmeth said.
The Spring Carnival Sale follows the recent Inglis Digital auction of a one per cent share in The Everest contender Ninja, highlighting the growing interest in purchasing smaller ownership stakes in elite racehorses.
Bidding for the Inglis Digital Spring Carnival Sale will begin at 12pm AEDT on Monday, October 26, with the final countdown scheduled to commence at 4pm AEDT on Wednesday, October 28.
With the 2026 Melbourne Cup approaching, the auction offers buyers the opportunity to secure a share in a high-profile stayer during one of the busiest periods on the Australian racing calendar.
