Serene Lodge trainer Wayne Wilkes will send around four horses at Port Macquarie on Sunday and all of them appear to be in with a chance to say the very least.
Whirlwhind comes up in race three and looks one of the top picks. The daughter of Bianconi showed good natural pace to lead at her only start at Taree before being claimed near the post by Chik Chik Boom.
Expect her to be on the speed again and with that run under her belt, she’ll be very hard to beat.
Aston hasn’t shown much this time in but Wilkes always seems to get his horses to bob up when punters least expect it so I’d include him in exotics. He drops 3.5kg from his last start ninth and he is third up today so he is due to show something.
Golden Jess won her only start at Port Macquarie on September 26 before being sent for a spell. From all reports she has worked nicely for this and the claim for young Matthews makes the filly have to carry only 51.5kg. She looks a big chance.
Spinning Nuts would prefer a rise in distance but I liked his first up effort behind Ugly when he got severely checked early on before running home nicely. He drops back to 1200m which is a concern but there appears to be good speed in the event so if he can overcome the barrier, he’ll be there when the whips are cracking.
