September Born could not have been any more impressive on debut at Belmont in June and trainer Neville Parnham has no doubt he’ll measure up in much better races at Ascot.
A son of boom sire, Playing God, September Born raced outside of the leader and booted clear to win his first race by two lengths before being tipped out for a spell.
Related to Group 1 champion, Kay Cee, September Born has been back in work for about three weeks and Parnham is thrilled with his development.
“He looks magnificent and if anything, he’s grown,” Parnham said to Tab touch.
“I felt he was growing in height last time around, but he’s come back really good, and definitely grown taller.
“He’s in a good race and hopefully we can target a race like the Guineas with him, follow a similar path to his sister, Kay Cee.
“We’ll probably look for something a bit soft and obviously head to the Fairetha, another run in between and then the Guineas.”
Parnham believes September Born, at the same age, is slightly ahead of Kay Cee in development.
Kay Cee was a star for Parnham, winning seven races and over two million dollars in prizemoney from her 20-start career.
A five-time stakes winner, she reached her pinnacle by taking out the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m), then known as the Kingston Town Classic.
“He does give me the impression he’s a little bit stronger and a bit more forward than Kay Cee was,” Parnham said.
“She was a very good three-year-old and he’s a good as type of horse that I’d like to be taking to the carnival.”
In Northerly Stakes future markets, September Born is $7 with Western Empire and stable mate Zipaway sharing $6 favouritism.
Zipaway celebrated a stellar three-year-old campaign with victory in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and a third in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m).
While Bustler couldn’t show his best in a Melbourne autumn campaign, Zipaway stood out for Parnham and flew the flag proudly for the stable.
Minus the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) when well beaten, Zipaway won admirers with third placings in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m).
“His runs in Melbourne were super,” Parnham said.
“His last run at Moonee Valley he got held up coming to the corner and into the straight and he might have knocked that race off.
“His first up run was terrific, and, in the Guineas, he had no luck from the draw.
“He’s a bigger, stronger horse this time in and he absolutely is wanting to get on with the job.
“He might have to go to the Eurythmic, then into the Asian Beau and probably three weeks into the Railway.
“That’s my plan and further on to the Northerly will be his targets.”
Zipaway is currently the $6 second favourite in the Railway.
