The 2011 Golden Slipper winner Sepoy will be retired from racing in time to stand at stud in Australia later this year.
Sepoy, who is now a member of Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin racing team in England, is being set for a Group One farewell in July.
“Sepoy is in full training and the plan is for him to run in the Darley July Cup (at Newmarket),” Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said.
“We hope that he shows the northern hemisphere what a special horse he is.”
Sepoy will stand for Sheikh Mohammed at Darley’s Kelvinside Stud in the Hunter Valley for a $66,000 service fee.
In a stellar two and three-year-old career under the guidance of Darley Australia head trainer Peter Snowden, Sepoy won four Group One races.
Sepoy defeated older horses in last year’s Group One Manikato Stakes, relegating subsequent Doncaster Mile winner More Joyous into third placing.
He ended a five-run unbeaten spring campaign with a narrow Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes win over Foxwedge.
News of his impending retirement comes 24 hours after it was announced Foxwedge’s racing days are over.
Darley chief operating officer Oliver Tait says Sepoy deserves to be ranked among the best of Australia’s modern day racehorses to go to stud.
“There hasn’t been a racehorse with these credentials retire to stud in Australia since (champion sprinter) Vain,” he said.
Sepoy stepped onto the international stage for the first time during the Dubai World Cup meeting in March but could finish only 10th in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.
