Promising colt Schwarz is poised for a short but critical autumn campaign, with only three runs left before retiring to stud.
Trainer John O’Shea confirmed the plan following Schwarz’s impressive win in the Group 2 Australia Stakes on Friday night, solidifying his credentials as a stallion prospect.
“He has probably only got three runs left in his career, and they will be at the elite level,” O’Shea told racing.com.
The $1.25 million son of Zoustar is being prepared for the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes on February 8, with the Canterbury Stakes also under consideration.
A gallop at Caulfield prior to the Orr Stakes will determine his fitness and readiness.
With multiple stakes wins to his name, Schwarz’s Group 1 aspirations are pivotal in determining his stud value.
“We are now working on what his stud fee is going to be,” O’Shea noted, emphasising the balance between racing success and protecting his long-term value.
