Brad Parnham is back on Samizdat in the Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m) after the Chris and Michael Gangemi-trained six-year-old came from the clouds to score a brilliant first-up win two weeks ago.
In-form hoop Clint Johnston-Porter rode Samizdat in the Belmont Newmarket (1200m) when he swept home wide to run over the top Of Tellem We’re Comin and Indian Pacific.
Parnham missed the opportunity of partnering Samizdat in the Belmont Newmarket after he rode Indian Pacific for his father, trainer, Neville Parnham.
Parnham has ridden Samizdat in three of the gelding’s 19 starts including his best win in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot two years ago.
“Brad is back aboard,” Michael Gangemi told The Races WA.
“He was obviously committed to Indian Pacific last start (Belmont Newmarket).
“He’s done all the work on the horse all prep.
“He is rapt to get back on.”
Gangemi says race conditions are perfect for Samizdat in the Idyllic Prince Stakes.
“The biggest thing for me is 1300m second-up, weight for age and on a track that he likes.
“He’s meeting the horses he beat the other day better at the weights.
“It’s the perfect platform to go second up.
“He’s improving and on paper he should be very, very hard to beat.”
Gangemi is confident Samizdat can go to Melbourne in a blaze of glory.
He’s set to fly east next week for his maiden interstate campaign.
“If he does good, he will go three weeks into the Group 1 Rupert Clarke,” Gangemi said.
“1400m is where you want see him start to peak.
“He has a couple of big ones after that.
“If he doesn’t go how we want, we will detour to easier options.
“We’re going over there having a throw at the stumps.
“The longer straights and a bit of give in the tracks will definitely help him.”
The Gangemi stable can win their second Idyllic Prince Stakes on Saturday.
Michael’s brother, Chris, prepared Rock Magic in 2016.
Floyd is the second of the Gangemi runners in the Idyllic Prince Stakes.
The eight year-old has drawn barrier eight and will be ridden by Clint Johnston-Porter.
Parnham and Samizdat combine from barrier four.
