A brother to Russian Revolution was one of the star performers in the early part of this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, which commenced in Sydney on Monday.
The Newgate Farm-prepared colt by Snitzel out of the Stravinsky mare Ballet D’amour was bought by James Harron for $1.4 million.
Not only is the bay colt a brother to two-time Group 1 winner and last year’s leading first season sire Russian Revolution, his half-sister Miss Interiors is the dam of former glamour three-year-old and now popular stallion Home Affairs.
“We’re here to try and buy stallion prospects and he was the horse we were very keen to secure,” Harron said.
“He’s a cracking horse, has big pedigree to back him up and is off one of the best farms in the country in Newgate.
“For us, it’s about putting as many of the variables in our corner as we can and he did that.”
A late foal, the colt will be given a quiet time for a few weeks before heading to Queensland to be broken in, after which a decision on who will train will be made.
“He’s handled the sale as well as I’ve ever seen a horse handle a sale, he never turned a hair, and being a 7th of November foal I really think there’s nothing but upside with this horse,” Harron said.
“He’s got a lot of strength and is mentally very strong for a 7th of November foal.
“It’s all about just getting him back and looking after him and letting him grow and develop and then he’ll be the one that tells us when he’s ready.”
Harron’s big buy was one of a four seven-figure lots before lunchtime on Day 1, three of whom were by Snitzel.
Yulong Investments paid $1.3 million for a Snitzel colt out of Acquired, which makes him a brother to dual Group 2 winner Splintex, while China Horse Club, Go Racing and Trilogy teamed up to pay $1.1 million for a Snitzel colt from former South African champion Carry On Alice.
The other seven-figure lot early on Day 1 was an I Am Invincible colt out of Bonny O’Reilly who sold for $1.3 million, also to Yulong.
