David Pfeiffer didn’t think he’d get a run when he entered ROCKETING BY (So You Think-Across The Moon) for the $1million Inglis Sprint over 1200m earlier this week.
After all, two runs back he won his maiden.
“This is big. We targeted this race and just had too have a throw of the stumps. I just can’t believe we got a run,” said Pfeiffer.
“The horse is in great form and we got a beautiful ride from Kerrin today.
All that was true.
While fancied runners were out the back, they being dual Gr 1 winner OLE KIRK (Written Tycoon-Naturale) and 5 times Gr 2 winner DAME GISELLE (I Am Invincible-Ballet Society) Rocketing By was always a couple of lengths ahead of them.
When their riders brought them to the outside for their respective runs, and they both started to fly home, Rocketing By weaved between them and just shot away.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy who rode him perfectly, he was impressed.
“He put them away very well.,” he said.
“It was a good win. I had never sat on him until, today. He travelled well enough and once I asked him to quicken and take a gap, he attacked it like a rat up a drain pipe.:
He burst away and all the others fought hard behind him.
Second home was last year’s $2million Inglis Millennium winner PRIME STAR (Starspangledbanner-Barinka) who came home hard from mid field.
Ole Kirk wound up 3rd and his run was outstanding from the back.
He will win further Group races.
Dame Giselle ran 4th.
Rocketing By is a colt and is worth a small fortune for his very large group of owners.
“It was a bit of an emotional week this week for us. Every good win is a great win,” said Pfeiffer.
Rocketing by cost just $22,000 as a yearling and would be worth 30 times at least that now.
Kerrin “He put them away. It was a good win. I had never sat on him until, today. Once I asked him to quicken and take a gap, he attacked it like a rat up a drain pipe.”
