Revolt chasing fairytale Battle Of The Bush triumph

Mount Isa based trainer Jay Morris will bring the four-year-old gelding Revolt to the final of the Battle Of The Bush at Eagle Farm on Saturday, looking to extend a perfect trainer/runner race record set in extraordinary circumstances.

Revolt, a son of Russian Revolution, is currently enjoying a second stay in the Morris stable. He was originally trained by the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou training partnership before transferring to the Morris stable. Later, Revolt was on the move again, this time moving to the Darryn Hansen stable … and then it was back to the Morris stable where Revolt now resides.

Revolt’s form breakdown in the route followed in that three stable change journey shines a light on an unusual circumstance which is that perfect Morris/Revolt harmony.

The first time Morris had Revolt in his stable, Revolt raced on six occasions (four times in Mount Isa, once in Townsville and once in Birdsville) and won them all. That left him six from six with Morris.

Since Revolt has reverted to the Morris stable for a second time, he has raced three times and has won them all. That’s nine straight wins … an unbeaten sequence, in fact, for Revolt when racing under the care of Jay Morris.

Overall, Revolt has raced on eight different tracks, but has been kept to the 1000m, 1110m and 1200m distance range … and he has won over all of those trips, five times over 1200m, twice over 1110m and three times over 1000m.

The Battle Of The Bush Final is contested over 1200m.

Notably, all of Revolt’s career ten wins (from only sixteen starts) have come on good going. He has raced twice on soft going without featuring in the finish, but that might be too small a sample size to confirm any real concern.

Revolt’s biggest win to date came in the $40 000 Open Quality Handicap over 1000m at Birdsville last year and a win in the $200 000 Battle Of The Bush Final would obviously trump that by some way.

Morris, who has produced a consistent flow of winners for several years, has returned an impressive thirty-six percent winning strike-rate from his last fifty runners.

Bubba Tilley, who will take the reins on Revolt on Saturday, will become the thirteenth jockey to ride Revolt in what will be the gelding’s seventeenth start. He replaces Mitch Goring who guided Revolt to his last three wins.

Tilley will be looking to set the record straight after finishing in third spot, less than a length back  when partnering the Pat Webster trained Invahir in last year’s final. Invahir, who was the race favourite, led well into the home straight but was overhauled late … with only 50m left to run … by Peshwa and Under The Limit, who finished first and second respectively.
