The Queensland racing community is mourning the death of Beaudesert-based thoroughbred trainer Leanne Hartley.
Earlier today, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission was notified of a training incident in which Hartley was kicked by a horse at her property in South East Queensland. Queensland Police have advised that her death has been deemed accidental.
โOur sincerest condolences are extended to Leanneโs family and friends, and our thoughts are with them during this tragic time,โ Racing Queensland Acting CEO Lachlan Murray said.
โWe expect every participant to be able to come home safe and sound and it is heartbreaking that we have lost one of our own today.โ
Hartley operated a small team but enjoyed success this year with Crackenthorpe, who broke his maiden at the Sunshine Coast before returning to win a Class 1 there two starts later. Following a Deagon trial victory last week, Crackenthorpe had been nominated to resume at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
