Jockey Nathan Day, who has successfully plied his trade on the Northern Queensland circuit for some time, has been handed a hefty nine-month penalty by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards to begin with immediate effect.
The relevant, official steward’s report, which was issued on Monday, March 21, reads:
‘Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the conduct of licensed jockey Mr Nathan Day at the Rockhampton Jockey Club on Saturday 12th March 2022.
‘After considering all the evidence tendered, Mr Day was found guilty of a charge under AR228(a): AR 228 Conduct detrimental to the interests of racing
‘A person must not engage in:
(a) conduct prejudicial to the image, interests, integrity, or welfare of racing, whether or not that conduct takes place within a racecourse or elsewhere.
‘The specifics of the charge being that during the running of the race meeting held at the Rockhampton Jockey Club on Saturday the 12th of March 2022 he engaged in conduct within the scales area of the Jockey club which was prejudicial to the image of racing.
‘In determining penalty stewards took into consideration the conduct of jockey Day has a negative impact on the racing industry and the general public.
‘Taking the above into consideration, Mr Day was disqualified for a period of nine (9) months to commence immediately Monday 21st March 2022 and to conclude midnight Wednesday 21st December 2022.
‘Jockey Day was advised of his appeal rights.’
