Japanese star Prognosis is Racing Victoria’s prime target for this year’s Cox Plate. Paul Bloodworth, Racing Victoria’s international recruiter, confirmed that Prognosis’s connections are considering a Melbourne trip this spring.
Prognosis, a six-year-old, boasts three Group 2 wins over 2000m in Japan and finished second to Romantic Warrior in last year’s Hong Kong Cup. He also placed behind the now-retired champion Equinox in mid-2023. Currently, Prognosis is the $8 equal second favourite in Cox Plate markets with bookmakers and is expected to feature in the first round of nominations on Tuesday.
“Prognosis is clearly our number one seed for the Cox Plate from an international perspective this year,” Bloodworth said. “He’s a serious horse with form around superstars like Romantic Warrior and Equinox.”
