Private Eye is set to take centre stage in the Southside Slot Series after Ladbrokes confirmed the seasoned star for next month’s $1 million Ladbrokes Supernova (1400m).
The Joe Pride-trained sprinter, already a $12.7 million stakes earner, will team up with rising talent Need Some Luck as part of Ladbrokes’ slot roster for the high-profile series. Need Some Luck lines up this Saturday in the $1 million Ladbrokes Meteorite (1200m) at Cranbourne.
The Peter Snowden-prepared five-year-old heads into the Meteorite with compelling form, having captured the Listed Fisher Stakes at Flemington on Champions Stakes Day — mirroring the lead-up of last year’s winner, Nadal. Michael Dee has secured the ride.
In the meantime, champion Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller will again partner Private Eye in the Supernova, extending their proven and successful combination.
Trainer Joe Pride said he believes the Supernova is ideally suited to his durable campaigner.
“This race is the right move for him. He travels so well down to Melbourne and we actually stay at Pakenham. He’s been down twice this year and it has worked really well.
“He is a very tough horse — he has been from day one. He would have made it as a late two-year-old, but they called the races off that day. He has raced right through, and he doesn’t miss a beat — he is an iron horse.
“He will be champing at the bit by then. He goes so well off the back of these freshen-ups now. 1400m looks like his perfect distance — it might have been that way his whole career, but there hasn’t been enough prizemoney around for him at the top level until now.”
