The second foal of unbeaten champion Black Caviar is close to making his racecourse debut.
Prince Of Caviar has been nominated for a 1000m two-year-old race at Cranbourne on Friday night and heat two of the Taj Rossi Series (1200m) at Sandown on Saturday.
Trained by Hawkes Racing, Prince Of Caviar has been in and out of their Flemington stable learning his trade and has taken part in four jump-outs, three at Flemington and one at Werribee.
He was given a preparation earlier in the year contesting two jump-outs in January and February before a break.
Prince Of Caviar had his first jump-out back this campaign at Werribee on May 7 with a second at Flemington on Friday.
Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said the colt was progressing nicely but finding the right race was proving difficult.
“He’s good. He’s well,” Hawkes said.
“He’s doing everything right but we don’t want to go to the artificial tracks and the programming is not that crash hot right at the moment.
“He’s at that stage where he could have a race, or go to the paddock.
“The likelihood of accepting for one of the races at this stage is good, but you know what we’re like, we can pull the plug pretty quick.”
Unbeaten in 25 starts, Black Caviar has had four foals.
Her first Oscietra has won two of her five starts at Geelong and Ballarat but hasn’t raced since finishing eighth at Sandown in March.
Black Caviar also has an as-yet unnamed filly by Snitzel and a weanling by More Than Ready.
If Prince Of Caviar is to make his debut at either Cranbourne or Sandown, Luke Nolen, who rode Black Caviar in 22 of her 25 wins, will ride.
