Star mare Pride Of Jenni is heading back to Victoria following a below-par run in Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben Cup.
Owner Tony Ottobre confirmed the decision to end her Queensland campaign, though no final call has been made on whether the three-time Group 1 winner will be retired.
That will be determined once she’s settled back in Victoria.
In the Doomben Cup, Pride Of Jenni set her usual strong tempo but faded late to finish third-last as Antino charged home to claim the race.
“She’s pulled up ok – a little bit of a slow recovery, but she has had a crack,” trainer Ciaron Maher said.
“I don’t think anything was beating Antino today… but Jenni’s physically ok.”
Maher noted her heart rate was slightly elevated but said she appeared sound post-race.
Jockey Craig Newitt labelled the effort “disappointing”, likening it to her flop in the Australian Cup earlier this prep.
