More than 3000 tonnes of graded sand will be added to South Australia’s Port Augusta racetrack as part of a significant redevelopment announced by Racing SA on Thursday.
The project will also phase out the oil that has been used on the track since its inception. Racing SA, in collaboration with the Port Augusta Racing Club, has focused on creating solutions that balance both performance and environmental sustainability.
As a result of the renovation works, racing and training will briefly pause, with the meeting scheduled for April 13 now postponed.
Racing SA CEO Nick Bawden highlighted the importance of the investment in regional racing.
“This renovation of the Port Augusta track demonstrates our commitment to racing in regional South Australia,” Bawden said.
He added that the upgrade would not only improve the track’s surface but also lead to more sustainable track management, benefiting the local racing community in the long term.
