The three feature races at Morphettville on Saturday all produced winners worth following, with Never Ordinary, Shadhavar and Stung each completing back-to-back victories.
The aptly named Never Ordinary claimed the Dequetteville Stakes (1050m), a Listed set-weights event for two-year-olds, taking her record to two wins from three starts. Her only defeat came on debut when she was narrowly beaten by Rebel Tuesday by just 0.12 lengths.
Trained by Byron Cozamanis, the daughter of Dirty Work was heavily backed into $1.40 favouritism (from $1.55) and, under Rochelle Milnes, who has ridden her in all starts, she delivered again with a one-length win over $8 chance Verzain, who has now finished runner-up in both career starts.
Next, Shadhavar made it successive feature wins when taking out the Matrice Stakes (1200m), following on from her dominant victory in the Magic Millions SA 3YO & 4YO Classic at Murray Bridge.
The Tom Dabernig-trained four-year-old, another well-supported favourite at $2.35, scored by a neat length under Jacob Opperman, who also partnered her in her previous win. From six starts this campaign, Shadhavar has now recorded three wins and two second placings.
One race later, Stung added her name to the list of standout performers with a strong win in the Claire Lindop Stakes (1600m).
The three-year-old daughter of Dundeel, trained by Ben, Will and JD Hayes, stepped up in distance after a first-up win over 1400m and handled the rise to 1600m with ease, scoring by 1.75 lengths at $6 under Luke Currie.
Stung is building an impressive profile, now with three wins from four starts. Her only defeat came when stepping sharply in grade to finish fifth in the Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
That race was won by Salty Pearl, who went on to finish a close third in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
Never Ordinary, Shadhavar and Stung – three feature winners with plenty of upside.
