Forget Gr 1 racing at Ascot in WA today, the feel good run of the afternoon was by the veteran RED PUBLISHER (Publishing-Kewpie Doll).
The old boy was a $28 chance and one of the very first rides for relocated Victorian hoop Brad Rawiller.
And what a day for both.
This was Rawiller’s first winner in his new venture and the ride was outstanding, settling the pensioner off the speed, one off the fence after drawing wide in gate 12.
And didn’t the horse, a rising 10-year-old, respond brilliantly.
He came home hard and full of determination after the flying well-supported leader, SOPHIE’S SONG (Rogano-Acclaimed) kicked two lengths clear once they turned.
He only just got there but he did and gave all owners of all horses that much needed shot of hope.
This was Red Publisher’s 10th win to go with his 30 placings and he now has won $555,000 in stakes.
