Champion Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan has abandoned the remainder of Pembrey’s Sydney campaign and will instead freshen the talented filly for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.
Pembrey made an impressive start to her spring preparation when winning the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick on August 22, but was unable to repeat that performance in Saturday’s Group 2 Furious Stakes.
The three-year-old finished sixth, beaten 2.5 lengths by winner Bangkok Hottie, prompting Gollan to pull up stumps on her Sydney campaign.
The Kia Ora Stud-owned homebred will now be freshened before targeting the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Victoria Derby day at Flemington.
Pembrey has previously demonstrated her ability to rebound from defeat, having been beaten as favourite at her second start as a juvenile before returning to win the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes.
The daughter of Prague, who now stands at Oaklands Stud, had also been considered a possible contender for The Everest if she produced a sufficiently strong performance in the Furious Stakes.
Kia Ora Stud also enjoyed Group 1 success at Sandown on Saturday as breeder and co-owner of My Gladiola, who claimed the Moir Stakes.
