Trainer Michael Freedman has confirmed that Golden Slipper-winning filly Marhoona will be brought along patiently for the spring, with a later start to her campaign the preferred option.
The Snitzel filly is close to making her first public appearance in a barrier trial, but Freedman is leaning towards resuming her in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on September 6.
While there is the option to start earlier in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) two weeks prior, Freedman is conscious of the 3kg penalty Marhoona would be required to carry in that event due to her Group 1 success.
By comparison, the Furious Stakes is run at set weights, which is seen as a more suitable first-up assignment for the rising star.
Marhoona etched her name in history at just her third race start when taking out the Golden Slipper, storming home to defeat Coolmore colt Wodeton after only scraping into the field.
