Lee and Anthony Freedman have trained their second Brisbane Group One winner in the space of seven days with Our Ivanhowe claiming the Doomben Cup.
Giving the Freedman stable its fifth win in the 2000m weight-for-age race, Our Ivanhowe came with a late run for jockey Kerrin McEvoy to post his most import success since coming to Australia.
The surprise victory came at the expense of world racing powerhouse Godolphin which supplied the runner-up Hauraki and the third placegetter It’s Somewhat.
A week ago, the Freedmans trained Malaguerra to win the BTC Cup in their first Group One victory as a training partnership.
Anthony Freedman was thankful that fortune was finally on Our Ivanhowe’s side at Doomben.
“He hasn’t had a lot of luck in his races,” Freedman said.
“Nothing’s really gone right and it didn’t really look like it was going to right today, but fortunately he got the outside, had momentum and finished off.”
