There's been plenty of interest from prospective buyers in unbeaten 2YO Steparty

Steparty’s owners have been given plenty to think about since his brilliant win at Flemington on Saturday.

Trainer Paul Preusker on Monday morning revealed that his phone had been running hot with offers to buy the two-year-old, but all to this point had been rejected.

But he left the door ajar for the potential sale of the Artie Schiller colt.

“It’s been a busy 24 hours on the offers already but at this moment we’re just pushing ahead with our business,” Preusker told RSN927.

“I guess everything’s for sale at the end of the day, but at this stage we’re all pressing on.”

Steparty, who is raced by a big group of owners and syndicates, including his breeder Greg Baldwin, announced himself a potential star when he demolished his rivals by 3-1/2 lengths in the 1200-metre two-year-old event that kicked of the Flemington card.

It made it two wins from as many starts following a 1-1/4-length win in an 1100-metre Ballarat maiden on debut.

He raced into the frame for spring three-year-old events such as the Coolmore Stud Stakes or Caulfield Guineas off the back of the victory, but Preusker said if offers continue to be rejected he could yet have another start this campaign.

Last Saturday’s race was a heat of the Next Generation Sprint Series, the $150,000 1200-metre final for which will be run at Flemington on Finals Day, July 3, and Preusker said Steparty will be monitored over the next two weeks with a view to another run.

“He probably will (have another run),” Pruesker said.

“He’s pulled up lovely, I can’t find a reason (to spell) – I’m looking for one, but can’t find one – so I guess it’s just a matter of poking away for the next fortnight and if he’s on top of his game still, he goes and we’ll go from there.”
