It’s the Magic Millions Sales that’s continually changing the face of racing, with their Gold Coast Yearling Sale to be held over seven days from Tuesday 12 January.
Described as ‘what the Magic Millions is all about’ the Champion 2Y0 Capitalist is now Leading First Season Sire and goes into this Gold Coast Sale with a classic 48 lot draft.
Already heading this season’s 14 individual First Season Sires with winners, Capitalist had his own Magic Millions son Captivant winning the Victory Vein Plate 1000m at Randwick.
In also being fourth in the $1m Golden Gift, Captivant was $550,000 purchase last year by China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and Starlight Racing, from Ashleigh Thoroughbreds.
Ashleigh this year has a ‘powerful’ half-brother by first season sire Hellbent, being from their placed Commands mare Speedboat, selling late on Day 4, in Book 1.
Also this season, Capitalist has the Flemington 1100m set-weight winner Profiteer, whose full-sister sells on Day 1, being from the Gr3 placed winning Snitzel mare Athene Lass.
A James Herron Bloodstock buy for $165,000 from Daandine Stud, Capitalist won the MM 2YO Classic, Golden Slipper Stakes and $3.5m for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden.
The ‘Met Mile’ winner Frosted sits second on the First Season Sires listing and has three fillies listed at this Magic Millions, consigned by A List Stud, Coolmore and Newhaven Park.
Having Ingratiating win the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes and second in Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate, Frost Flowers won the New Year Sprint and Cloudy third in Maribyrnong Trial Stakes.
In an amazing start to his northern hemisphere career Frosted has 16 individual juvenile winners with the Gr1 placed Travel Column winning the Gr2 Golden Rod Stakes, and four stakes placed.
The Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Flying Artie already has three early season winners headed by the Eagle Farm 1000m winner Princess Bojack, with The Art of Flying being duel stakes placed.
Well supported oy 10 individual consigners, it’s Newgate Farm client Ashton Thoroughbred with a half-brother to Shamalia and Emperor’s Way, from the Redoubt’s Choice winner Laylia.
Arrowfield’s Shala continues his excellent European season ‘down under’ with the Gr3 Breeders Plate winner and Golden Nugget second Shaquero having 30 yearlings, 10 from Arrowfield.
Shaquero’s early season foaled half-sister by Hellbent, from the winning Not a Single Doubt mare Fimatino, the family of Shamus Award, is being sold by Tyreel Stud on Day 2.
Duel Gr1 sprinter Extreme Choice has metropolitan winners Abseiler, Palamos and Tiger of Malay this season with a full sister to Flemington winner Abseiler, from Wanted Lady, on Day 1.
Extreme Choice has 10 yearlings selling, with his Ellerslie and Te Rapa winner Palamos having a half-sister by Deep Field also on Day 1, being from for the Japanese winner Unrevealed.
In the ‘speedster’ Star Turn siring Doomben winner and Gold Pearl third Miss Hipstar, he has a 11 lot draft, and it’s Vinery with his More Than Ready half-sister being from Single Style.
With this Gold Coast Yearling Sale launching the careers of so many of champions sires, this year there 21 new sires, 13 being well performed sons of our most influential families.
There is no doubting the Coolmore duel Gr1 winner Merchant Navy will draw attention, for his 18 yearlings are said to be the image of their sire, looking sharp and neat.
While Fastnet Rock did not possess a classic parade ring walk, which his yearling have inherited, they are said to be neater types with the same short back and good hips.
In being described as physical, Yarraman Park’s imposing Hellbent is true ‘Magic Millions’ with his 39 yearlings all in his mould, and also of his exceptional sire I Am Invincible.
There is no doubting that Arrowfield Stud has Pariah as their sire of the future, and with his 28 yearlings being physical types and ready to impact on our early juvenile races.
Both Newgate’s Russian Revolution and Impending, at Darley Northwood, have their yearlings as ‘types’ with Russian Revolution being by Snitzel his 35 yearlings being more precocious, while the ‘sprinter outcross’ Impending’s seven lots being 2yo’s, going onto milers.
Again the Magic Millions has drawn the cream of our international shuttlers head by French Derby winner Almanzor, through to Carravaggio, Churchill, Highland Reel, Ribchester and True Test.
