Mikki Isle’s three-week roll of milestone successes continued at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale when his son out of In The Clear sold for a sale-topping $500,000.
The colt, a smart $82,500 purchase by Melanie O’Gorman from Arrowfield’s Magic Millions yearling draft in January, breezed up in 10.26 and was bought by Gary Moore, now training at Rosehill in partnership with his brother, Champion Hong Kong trainer John Moore.
The price is a record for Mikki Isle’s first-crop progeny in Australia, exceeding the $250,000 paid by Sun Stud for the yearling filly out of Kirovskaya, also offered in Arrowfield’s Magic Millions draft earlier this year. She has been named Ishikari Bay and will race from the stable of Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou.
In The Clear (by Redoute’s Choice) is an unraced daughter of Group 1 winner Clean Sweep and is also the dam of stakes-placed 3YO winner Azaly (by Dundeel) and the winning filly Charging Clear (by Charge Forward). In The Clear foaled a second Dundeel colt in September and has a positive test to Castelvecchio.
Mikki Isle’s sale-ring success comes three days after his first-crop Japanese 2YO daughter Meikei Yell gained her second Group 3 victory in 2YO track record time.
Meikei Yell (ex Shiroinger by Harbinger) won her debut in August before taking out the 1200-metre Kokura Nisai S. G3 on 6 September. She has now added the Hanshin Fantasy S. 1400m G3 in a blazingly fast 1:20.1. Along with six other winners, she has helped Mikki Isle into fourth spot on Japan’s First Season Sires’ Premiership.
The dual Group 1-winning son of Deep Impact posted his first Australian winner when a third Arrowfield Magic Millions graduate, Oriental Princess (ex Anadan by Anabaa) won her Sunshine Coast debut on 25 October. Bought for $150,000, she is trained by Gillian Heinrich for Heinrich Bloodstock.
The second crop of Australian yearlings by Mikki Isle, who was Japan’s 2016 Champion Sprinter-Miler, will be offered for sale in 2021.
