Mike Moroney is stepping back from his co-trainer role at Ballymore Stables in New Zealand, with Pam Gerard set to assume full control. The decision marks the culmination of an 18-month plan aimed at ensuring both stables’ future success.
“We’ve been working on a plan for the past 18 months to ensure the future success of both our stables, and the decision has been made for Pam to take ownership and sole charge of Ballymore’s Matamata operation,” Moroney stated.
Gerard, with a training career spanning over two decades, joined Ballymore in 2016. “Our paths happened to cross at the time I was looking for a change and when Mike made the offer, I was happy to take on the challenge, it was too good an opportunity to turn down,” Gerard remarked.
Under Gerard’s leadership, Ballymore achieved significant successes, including Group 1 victories with On The Rocks. Despite Moroney’s step back, he remains supportive, emphasizing a collaborative approach between the two stables.
The transition, effective July 1, signifies a new chapter for both trainers. Moroney, citing health challenges, expressed confidence in Gerard’s leadership. “Just as Dave O’Sullivan supported me in my early years, I will continue to support Pam,” he affirmed.
