The two horses who ran the quinella in last years Melbourne Cup ‘Rekindling’ and ‘Johannes Vermeer’ are in doubt to contest this years edition of the race.
Rekindling and Johannes Vermeer fought out last years Melbourne Cup and head the markets for this years edition of The Race That Stops A Nation although there is speculation neither horse will travel to Australia to contest the race.
The two Lloyd Williams owned horses were at the top of markets until speculation surrounded their commitment to the race due to the weights they will receive after neither horse was nominated for the Cox Plate which is often a key lead up race for the Cup.
International galloper Withold heads the 2018 Melbourne Cup odds with Rekindling now a $21 chance whilst Johannes Vermeer is at $31.
