Racing Victoria vets have given two Melbourne Cup runners until official scratching time the chance to prove their fitness to run in Australia’s great race.
DelphiĀ and Future ScoreĀ both presented with lameness when RV vetsĀ againĀ inspected all 24 horsesĀ in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup (3200m)Ā at Flemington.
Following vet inspections prior to accepting for the Cup on Saturday afternoon,Ā RVĀ added a further inspectionĀ on Monday as part of their stringent protocols following the death on Anthony Van Dyck inĀ last year’s Cup.
Those inspectionsĀ found Delphi, trained byĀ Anthony and Sam Freedman, presented with lameness in his nearside foreleg while the Matt Cumani-trained FutureĀ Score was showing signs of lameness in the offside foreleg.
Both horses will be reinspected by vets prior to the 7.30am scratching time on Tuesday.
Delphi has been well-supported in Cup betting with TAB firming from as muchĀ as $51 following Saturday’s draw into $17 while Future Score is an outsider at $126.
The Peter Moody-trained IncentiviseĀ was the $2.80 favourite on Monday evening with Spanish MissionĀ second pick at $11.
