Ciaron Maher has set his sights on the Toorak Handicap for his talented galloper Holymanz this spring. After a pleasing first-up effort, finishing sixth behind Gentleman Roy at Flemington, Holymanz is now nominated for the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull revealed that the Toorak Handicap is Holymanz’s “grand final” this campaign. “He ran a cracker in the All-Star Mile against a star-studded field,” Turnbull said, noting that Holymanz rated three lengths better than ever under Mark Zahra in his recent return.
Turnbull is optimistic about Holymanz’s natural progression, believing the Toorak Handicap will suit him perfectly. Holymanz is currently listed at $15 with bookmakers in early market for the Lawrence Stakes.
Meanwhile, the Maher stable has also nominated Piastri for the Benchmark 74 Handicap over 1100m at Caulfield. Piastri, in strong form after a recent victory at Caulfield, is being carefully managed as he continues to progress.
With Holymanz and Piastri both primed for success, the Maher stable is looking forward to a promising spring campaign.
