The Ciaron Maher stable will commence the autumn campaigns of two of its three-year-olds in a Stakes race at Sandown.
Odinson and Another Prophet will clash in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) on Saturday as they prepare for richer autumn targets.
A surprise Group 1 winner at the tail end of the Melbourne Spring Carnival, Another Prophet is being aimed at another Guineas race this campaign.
Another Prophet won the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield in November and is being aimed towards the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington in March.
Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said Another Prophet was progressing well ahead of her return to racing on Saturday after two jump-outs.
“She was unassuming last prep,” Turnbull said.
“She won her maiden over 1100 metres, but we threw in the deep end because she was threatening, getting beat two, three lengths and being just off them.
“We were unsure about her, but we gave her the opportunity to step up in trip and then she ran a cracker in the Carbine Club Stakes.
“Ethan (Brown) was the one that said, ‘have a go at the Thousand Guineas’ and see what happens.
“She lobbed in a perfect spot, he gave her a good ride, she saw out the mile and has continued to get better.”
Turnbull said that campaign had woken the filly up, but he sees Saturday’s return as a difficult task for the filly.
“It’ll be difficult to win on Saturday, I think, but it gives us an opportunity to have a run over six furlongs and then look for that seven-furlong option,” Turnbull said.
“I think an Australian Guineas is probably a realistic grand final in Victoria for her.
“You take her to Sydney and you’re probably taking on those upper echelon fillies, so we believe, giving her just a three, four-run prep max, keeping her in Victoria, then spelling, come back for the spring and a race like the Empire Road should be perfect for her.”
A niggling foot problem kept Odinson out of the spring, but Turnbull said the team held a strong opinion of the colt.
He said the stable would be in no rush with the gelding this campaign.
“There was nothing structural or anything, but he had to have an extended period of time off,” Turnbull said.
“In a sense, he’s very well handicapped on Saturday for the horse he is, so because of the time he’s had off, he should be one that should hit the mark pretty soon.
“He’s had a bit of work. He has improvement, but he’s fit enough and forward enough to run well.”
Turnbull said the Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington on March 1, was an early target for Odinson.
The Maher stable won the race last year with Estriella.
