Jockeys in colorful silks race side-by-side on a green track, front runners near the camera with horses in full gallop behind a barrier.

Read what the jockeys had to say after the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Winning Jockey

Adam Hyeronimus (Headley Grange): He’s a beautiful horse, I actually really love him. He’s such a kind horse and he has his few little tricks, but we seem to get on really well and the way I was able to ride him today was perfect. He enjoys being ridden like that.”

“Unfortunately with Joe and the rides that I have for him a lot of the time, they’re normally deadset in the car park (with the barrier draw) and I was very happy that we finally got a good gate for once in sort of the last two years and that was the big difference today.”

Style of riding: “He needs to be bottled up like I was. And when I was able to sort of dart back to the inside and sort of push Nash (Rawiller) to take the run, I was worried that the horses out wide had probably put too much of a margin on him. But within three strides, I look across and I’m in front and we’re at the winning post and it couldn’t have went to script any better.”

If he can win a Stradbroke: “I can’t see why not.”

Beaten Jockeys

Ethan Brown (Jimmysstar, 2nd, 0.09L): “Ran well. Just came in at the top of the straight.”

James McDonald (Fangirl, 3rd, 0.41L): “She’s a great mare. She ran well.”

Jamie Melham (Another Wil, 4th, 0.55L): “Yeah it was a really great run.”

Ryan Maloney (Transatlantic, 5th, 1.21L): “I thought he ran well today with an uncontested lead. Down 4kg and 1400m in the Stradbroke ticks all the boxes.”

Nash Rawiller (Private Eye, 6th, 1.23L): “I thought he finished off well.”

Brad Rawiller (Rothfire, 7th, 1.46L): “Huge run. From the 600m to the 400m he came under the bridle. If I got a clear run he would have been hard to beat today. Bring on the Stradbroke in two weeks time.”

Luke Nolen (Desert Lightning, 8th, 1.78L): N/A

Jordan Childs (Splash Back, 9th, 2.58L): “Yeah she’s gone really well.”

Josh Parr (Von Hauke, 10th, 2.62L): N/A

Ben Melham (Linebacker, 11th, 3.26L): N/A

Mark Zahra (Napoleonic, 12th, 4.02L): “Yeah he didn’t run that trip.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Skybird, 13th, 4.67L): N/A

Lachlan Neindorf (Sepals, 14th, 6.69L): “Can’t be too critical of that run today. Barrier 16 was always going to be a tough ask. His main focus is in two weeks’ time.”

Tom Sherry (King Of Roseau, 15th, 8.76L): “Yeah the barrier didn’t help us and we had to ride him upside down.”

Tommy Berry (Yellow Brick, last, 8.97L): “Just kept getting back.”
